My Neck of the Woods — Understanding Sunlight and Shadow Color

In this tutorial, I paint My Neck of the Woods from start to finish, focusing on how shadows change hue and value depending on the surface they are cast onto in a sunny lighting scenario.

I talk through my decisions as I work, explaining how light direction, local color, and material influence shadow color, and how I use those relationships to keep the image readable and believable.
